Dr. Gupta is currently a research scientist specializing in earth sciences at the Biospheric Sciences Laboratory, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He serves as Principal Investigator and leads NASA’s AERONET network, while also managing an active air quality research group that utilizes NASA satellites, models, and ground measurements for air quality applications. Dr. Gupta leads collaborative efforts with the global earth science community, focusing on both research and training initiatives. He is the principal investigator on NASA-funded projects and participates in several NASA missions and science teams, including MODIS and VIIRS, NASA’s citizen science initiatives, Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs), and the Health and Air Quality Applied Science Team (HAQAST). For over ten years (2012-2023), Dr. Gupta has managed NASA’s ARSET Air Quality team, leading the development of more than 50 in-person and online trainings for ARSET and other NASA programs. Previously, he also served as portfolio manager for NASA SERVIR applied science team. Dr. Gupta’s research expertise encompasses remote sensing methods, machine learning, data product development, validation, and application development. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed studies focusing on satellite algorithms, air quality, climate science, statistical modeling, and advanced machine learning and data fusion techniques.
