Jeffrey S. Reid

Dr. Jeffrey Reid is an applied meteorologist and aerosol phenomenologist with the US Naval Research Laboratory, with a vertically integrated project portfolio from basic and applied science through prototype development for operations. His basic research focuses on the linkages of in situ and remote sensing observations of aerosol, cloud, and meteorological processes to better understand atmospheric state. He uses this for applied meteorology and Navy applications with an emphasis on practical metrics of data products for data assimilation, electro-optical systems, and battlespace monitoring. A particular focus is on the development of realistic error characteristics of in situ and remote sensing data, and viable propagation of errors into both numerical and conceptual models. Dr. Reid devotes a great deal of time to international collaboration, development and outreach and was a founding organizer of the International Cooperative for Aerosol Research (ICAP). Dr. Reid recently developed and led the 7 Southeast Asian studies (7SEAS) and NASA Clouds, Aerosol, Monsoon Processes Philippines (CAMP2Ex) and was an investigator with the ONR Propagation of Intra-Seasonal Tropical OscillatioNs (PISTON) projects. He currently is focusing on Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer variability and its Navy impacts leading ONR’s Moisture and Aerosol Gradients/Physics of Inversion Evolution (MAGPIE) campaign.
