Dr. Cheng Chen is a Professor at the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Lille, France, in 2018. From 2018 to 2024, he served as a Research Scientist at the Laboratoire d’Optique Atmosphérique (LOA), University of Lille, and GRASP-SAS, where his work focused on aerosol remote sensing, inverse modeling, and satellite data assimilation. He has contributed to several major research programs funded by ESA, EUMETSAT, and NSFC, including satellite missions such as POLDER, Sentinel-3, Sentinel-5P, CO2M, and 3MI, as well as Chinese polarimetric missions DPC and POSP, with a focus on the development of advanced aerosol and surface retrieval algorithms. He also led the development of a multi-parameter aerosol data assimilation framework based on multi-angle polarimetric observations to constrain aerosol–radiation interactions.
His research focuses on satellite remote sensing of atmospheric aerosols and surface properties, with particularly on polarimetric retrieval, atmospheric correction, and data assimilation to improve aerosol characterization and its applications in climate and air quality studies.
